Why didn’t the Chicago Bears interview Jim Harbaugh?

I know I said enough with the Jim Harbaugh stuff and Matt Eberflus is now the head coach and it is time to move on, but there are a few final things to address here. The big question is, what if the Minnesota Vikings hire Harbaugh? I would rather he go coach in Miami or something if he comes back to the NFL than within the division. At least I can stand seeing Harbaugh succeed outside of the NFC North. Pairing Harbaugh with first-time GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah makes sense though.

This is one thing that makes me think Harbaugh wouldn’t work here in Chicago. I don’t see him meshing well with a GM like Ryan Poles. Adofo-Mensah was fourth in my GM rankings and more of an analytical guy than a personnel guy. Harbaugh and Adofo-Mensah crossed paths in San Franciso and therefore the connection here makes sense. The connection between Harbaugh and the Chicago Bears makes even more sense though and it makes little sense to not interview him.

Some believe the reason he didn’t get an interview here is that a coach like Jim Harbaugh would make George McCaskey feel uncomfortable — that’s probably true. Some believe it was because of the 10 years, $100 million dollar contract rumor going around. Even if true, why are fans concerned about how a top-three marketed NFL team that is worth billions spends its money? Hiring Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus feels different in many ways, and in others, it fits the narrative of the team hiring cheap.

Hell, we don’t even know what type of contract Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus signed. Maybe they are both on seven-year deals? Maybe they are on a four-year deal or a 10-year deal? All that matters is winning, so the 10/$100M excuse from Bears fans doesn’t fly for me.

At least on paper, things seem to be shaking up nicely overall, but in all honesty, no one knows for sure how this staff will work out. All we can do is hope that they don’t waste the rest of Justin Fields’ rookie contract or even his career. I thought Eberflus and Poles said most of the right things in their introductory press conference, but in reality, all that matters is results and results need to equate to wins. Let us all just be hopeful once again as the 2022 NFL season is nearly upon us.
