Chicago Bears Blue-Chip Player: Darnell Mooney, WR

It might be too soon to include Darnell Mooney on this list. Maybe he’s more of a fringe blue-chip player, but man I just love watching the way Mooney works. I love his drive and his work ethic. Practicing with Justin Fields this offseason should only help Mooney find ways to become even better.

Now, his 2021 season was nothing to sneeze at. Thanks to an extra regular-season game this year, Mooney was able to put together a 12 reception, 126-yard performance in Week 18 to break 1,000 receiving yards. He caught 81 of his 140 targets, but only scored four touchdowns.

In 2022, Mooney will need to improve upon his 57.9% catch rate. He had nine drops this year after only having one last season. If he can somehow eliminate the drops, his catch rate should increase enough to be above 60 percent. The hope here too is that new OC Luke Getsy works his magic with the offense that opens things up more for Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney.

In my opinion, Mooney has proved enough to be a blue-chip player.
