The Chicago Bears draft another defensive back

One position the Bears could end up waiting on until the draft is at safety, but it’s an important position, currently. Eddie Jackson’s situation is a peculiar one. If he can’t up his play under Eberflus, then the Bears could end up waving goodbye in the near future. For now, they need to find another safety to start next to him, though.

There are some diamonds in the rough to be found later on at the safety position. Sterling Weatherford is one of those guys, and the Bears may find their next starting strong safety here.

Weatherford presents huge size, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds. He very well could end up projecting best as a sub-package type defender, maybe as a nickel or extra linebacker if he puts on some weight. But, as a strong safety, he definitely looks as though he’d have potential.

If you’ve been waiting for the Bears to finally find another safety who can hit, Weatherford is your guy. This is a man who does not shy away from contact — maybe Jackson will pick up on that and follow suit. But, Weatherford looks for contact and wants to establish his presence as an alpha on the field.

Last season, Weatherford tallied 66 tackles including two for a loss and one sack. He also added two picks and four passes defensed.
