Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears add more big bodies

The Bears have a history of being infatuated with former Notre Dame offensive linemen, and Jarrett Patterson is just another one in their recent line. Patterson would come in and compete at either guard or center, depending upon what the Bears choose to do in free agency.

Patterson stands a towering 6-foot-5, weighing in around 305 pounds, and right off the bat, you can see he offers excellent NFL size at the position. He is a former offensive tackle, where he was originally recruited, but since has switched to the interior. So, if need be, he offers some flexibility.

Patterson is the type of lineman who will be more of a brick wall than a guy who can get out in space. Now, that’s not to say that he can’t pull. He can — just not as well as you’d like him to. But, in pass protection, he holds his own against those powerful bull rushers. He’s got a stout, strong frame and would be an asset in keeping Fields off the ground.

The Bears could choose to keep Cody Whitehair and let James Daniels go, with Sam Mustipher hopefully being cut loose as well. That gives them two spots up front that are up for grabs. Having Patterson and Whitehair, both offering flexibility position-wise would be a luxury for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.
