The Chicago Bears could pursue free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu

One of the hottest names on the free agent market this year is three-time All Pro, three-time Pro Bowler, and Super Bowl champion Tyrann Mathieu. After signing a three-year, $42 million dollar contract with the Chiefs in 2019, Mathieu’s contract is now up and he could be heading elsewhere.

Prior to the 2021 season, Kansas City attempted to get an extension done with Mathieu. However, the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement. Now, Mathieu has said he hopes to stay in Kansas City, but says he doesn’t “have any control over that.”

Mathieu may be better suited as a free safety, but if the Bears had a chance to sign him, they would make it work between he and Jackson. Mathieu would be an expensive guy to sign, yet could also be worth it in the long run.

He’s a type of player who tries to make his teammates better and bring the best out of them. One might think that, playing with Jackson, he could help bring the former All Pro back to form. Should Jackson step up his play just a bit, he and Mathieu would be one heck of a duo at safety.

Jackson was once at the top of the league, ball-hawking and scoring touchdowns like Mathieu has done his entire career. To have the two of them on the same team could really bring the best out of both guys.
