Mock draft season is in full swing, as the NFL offseason has officially kicked off for every team following Super Bowl LVI. The Chicago Bears have been able to get plenty of work done already, as their season ended a little over a month ago.
Preparing for the draft looks a little different for the Bears this year, as they welcome in a new general manager and head coach — not to mention a brand-new staff beneath both of them.
Ryan Poles is gifted with the luxury of having a young, franchise quarterback in Justin Fields to build around. But, that luxury also comes with a bit of a penalty — only five picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Between Poles and new head coach Matt Eberflus, the next month and a half will be pivotal for the future of the Bears. If the draft goes right, the Bears would be set up for future success.

Depending on what the Bears do in free agency next month, this draft could go several different ways. But, let’s assume that a few things happen prior to this draft.
First, the Bears sign at least one cornerback in free agency — the one would be of starting caliber, and then from there Poles could add one more for depth.
Second, Poles goes out and signs a tight end to be the Bears’ no. 2 option behind Cole Kmet. Third, let’s assume that the Bears find one outside linebacker and that their front seven is essentially set — maybe all except for one more outside backer or edge rusher.
If that’s the case, then this mock draft is an absolute home run.
