The Chicago Bears have obvious positions of need that need to be addressed this offseason. The main three are wide receiver, cornerback, and offensive line. Still, some of the other positions on the team will need depth in order to fill out the roster. Lots of spots are filled by tenured starters, but their backups are either free agents or not good enough. These positions will need to be filled out in order to have a more complete roster come training camp.

The Chicago Bears need to add depth behind quarterback Justin Fields

Obviously, Justin Fields is the QB1 for the upcoming season, but the names behind him are in question after this year. Andy Dalton is now a free agent after signing a one-year, $10 million deal last offseason. He lived up to expectations as a plug-in starter or quality backup, but he did not do anything special.

The Bears could look to bring Dalton back, but there is a chance he goes to another team in order to compete for a starting job. Although he has not shown he can still be a quality starter, some teams will need a veteran who can possibly win a training camp battle against an unproven youngster.

Nick Foles is still under contract for one more year, but the Bears would save some money by cutting him. It has been an up and down ride for Foles in his Bears career. He has been clutch when brought off the bench but as a starter, he was not very good. Still, his experience and veteran leadership are a plus to keep him as a second or third-stringer, preferably the latter.

There are some good options in free agency to bring in. The Bears should bring in someone with experience rather than a backup who is cheap but has barely ever played. Fields has missed a few games already and his playstyle could lead to some more injuries than anticipated. Having a quality backup, like a Dalton, is important if the team wants to stay competitive.

The Bears should look at some quarterbacks in free agency, including Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Jacoby Brissett. These, among others, are many quality names that could be brought in to not only back up Fields but continue to help him learn at the NFL level.
