With that fourth-round pick from Atlanta, Poles immediately goes to work on building the offensive line in front of Fields. At pick no. 110, the Bears go with Oklahoma guard Marquis Hayes.

Hayes stands nearly 6-foot-5 and weighs around 320 pounds. The redshirt senior is best-known for his raw strength. Hayes isn’t the best athlete, but his power is how he wins. His base and core strength allow him to send defenders backward with relative ease.

Though he’s not the most athletic, Hayes does have functional hips and quick feet which he uses to move laterally in the event of a stunt. Exploding off the line is an area he can improve, but with his kind of size and strength, that’s what allows him to succeed more often than not.

Hayes is solid in both the run and pass game, not showing one glaring aspect of the game he needs to work on. Again, if he can improve athletically just a bit, Hayes has the potential to be a very good lineman in this league, and for a long time.

The Bears will be looking hard for help on the interior, both in free agency and in the draft. Hopefully, by draft time, the team has already signed at least one starter upfront. That makes it easier on Poles, not having to spend his second or third-round pick on the offensive line and being more willing to execute the previous trade.
