Chicago Bears Free Agent Target: Ted Karras, C – Patriots

Who doesn’t want to emulate the New England Patriots, right? I know that the team is not nearly as good now without Tom Brady, but even with Mac Jones, the Patriots would likely continue to find ways to win. That is just what a well-coached team tends to do.

Ted Karras is a boomerang player of the Patriots. He was a sixth-round pick of the Patriots in 2016. Karras started a total of five games for the Patriots between 2016 and 2018, before starting 15 in 2019. After his rookie deal was done, he played one year with the Miami Dolphins before rejoining the Patriots in 2021.

Honestly, Karras might be underrated by many. He is rarely mentioned when discussing possible replacements for Sam Mustipher. However, he is coming off a season where he finished with a PFF grade of 72.8. In 2020, while playing with the Miami Dolphins, he still graded out at 65.3.

Karras is nearly 29 years old and just like Brian Allen, he was born here in Illinois (Chicago). He even went to College at the University of Illinois. Maybe bringing one of Brian Allen or Ted Karras home is the right move and maybe they will take a slightly lower contract to come back home too? Karras is coming off a $3 million dollar deal, but I think he will see closer to that $6 to $8 million dollars per year range just like Allen.
