Trade Number 3: Calvin Ridley to the Chicago Bears for Khalil Herbert and picks

Lastly, the Bears could help the Falcons out at a position of need. While some have floated the idea of trading David Montgomery this offseason, the Bears should keep their best running back. But, trading Khalil Herbert after a promising rookie season? That’s an idea.

In trading Herbert, the Bears may open up a hole at running back, but they also might then show commitment to Tarik Cohen going forward. Cohen is still under contract, and his health situation has yet to be fully resolved. But, if healthy, Cohen could still be an impactful player.

For the Falcons, they get a young running back they can plugin right away. Since the days of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, Atlanta has failed to find a long-term solution in their backfield. They have gone through guys like Todd Gurley, Mike Davis and Cordarrelle Patterson to try and fill the gap. However, none of them have been able to take over as the true lead back.

Herbert gives them just that, along with the Bears sending a third-rounder this year and a sixth-rounder next year. Is this aggressive? Absolutely. Does it make the Bears better, though? Absolutely. Again, this offseason is all about Justin Fields — and getting Ridley is one of the best possible scenarios for Fields this offseason.
