The Chicago Bears should trade Cody Whitehair

A surprise cut this offseason would be if the Bears opted to part with interior offensive lineman Cody Whitehair. With Poles coming in, he may want as much cap room as he can get. He might also want to rebuild the offensive line his way. If that’s the case, Whitehair becomes either a trade or cut candidate.

One team who will be desperate to find offensive line help this offseason is the reigning AFC champions, the Cincinnati Bengals. We saw Joe Burrow hit the ground all season long, yet he somehow managed to will his team to the Super Bowl. In that Super Bowl, though, Burrow was sacked a record seven times by the Rams. You better believe this is the number one focus for Cincinnati this offseason.

Whitehair remains an above-average offensive lineman who can give the Bengals flexibility. He has played both guard and center over his six-year career in Chicago and even made a Pro Bowl back in 2018.

This trade is a bit of a risk, sure, as the Bears now have all three interior positions open. Poles will likely build inside of Teven Jenkins and Larry Borom as their long-term tackles, but finding three starting offensive linemen now becomes a bit of a challenge. One would have to think that Poles uses that fourth-round pick on an offensive lineman, if not an earlier pick in the second or third rounds.
