The Chicago Bears could do without nose tackle Eddie Goldman
Over the past two years, Eddie Goldman has missed a lot of football. In 2020, he chose to sit out the season for health and safety reasons. But last year, he also missed a few games. The 28-year-old has been one of the better run stuffers in the league since coming in as a second-round pick back in 2015.
But, with Poles coming in and likely wanting to find a lot of “his guys” to fill holes in the roster, Goldman’s cap number is definitely one that’s in danger.
If the Bears cut Goldman before June 1, they would save $6.7 million against the cap. That’s a pretty large number in terms of savings, just for one player. Chicago already has Goldman’s replacement waiting in the wing, with last year’s seventh-round pick Khyiris Tonga.
Playing for an injured Goldman to start the year, Tonga showed out in a big way. He showed he was more than capable of filling in for Goldman.
Let’s say the Bears cut ties with Goldman and use that savings to go after a starting guard or cornerback. That is a move that would greatly benefit the Bears, especially considering Tonga is there to step in.
