1. Christian Watson, North Dakota State

The path to being a small school player who is an NFL star starts with the pre-draft process. If you are a small school player, the Senior Bowl goes a long way as you finally get to prepare across from other talents in your skill range.

Christian Watson dominated the Senior Bowl week and was labeled one of the big winners. That was the first step, and the next step comes at the combine. Coaches saw that he was not phased by the step-up in class.

Now, they will get to see his size and athleticism on display next to these names. What is best about the combine is that we have so many years of data, that we can find possible numbers and thresholds that a player like Watson should hit if he wants to be considered NFL talent. Plenty of small school players head to Indianapolis and then crash down the NFL draft board because their athleticism was fine for a small school but nearly overwhelming enough for the NFL.

This is the perception that Watson will be fighting this week. A strong week shows that he belongs on the field and that he has the physical capabilities to hang with some of the best in the world. More than others, this week will go a long in helping Christian Watson get into the top 50 conversations. Keep an eye on the former Bison star.
