2. Will Blake Martinez get released?

Chicago Bears fans know Blake Martinez well from his days with the Green Bay Packers. In 2020, he had arguably the best year of his career with the New York Giants. Then, in 2021 he tore his ACL. Fortunately, in some ways, the injury occurred in week three, so it means he may not miss any time in 2022.

Still, with the new regime in place, they may like Martinez, but also not like paying a player $8.5M coming off of the injury. The Giants can save that and get closer to good cap standing, and it will put Martinez on the market.

He will not get that type of money but should get attention considering he should be well on his way through his rehab. It will come down to cost when it comes to the Chicago Bears, of course.

This is a team that is about to break the bank for Roquan Smith. They need somebody to play beside them and currently do not have much at all. If they can get a cheap veteran with experience being a leader on the inside, it could be a huge win. On the flip side, Martinez could see a chance to play beside Smith as a chance to make himself look better, and a one-year cheap deal could be worth it in his eyes.
