The 2022 NFL Combine kicked off this week. Over the first two days, prospects were interviewed by media and teams alike. Prospects were not the only ones interviewed as both Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles addressed the media too.
Today is the first day of physical events. The quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends will kick us off as the Combine continues throughout the rest of the week and through the weekend. Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus, and whoever else the Chicago Bears brought will be watching these events closely, but personally, the wide receiver position has to be the main focus today.
Ryan Poles says that the Chicago Bears draft board is “pinned down”
The thing is, the NFL Combine should not be all that earth-shattering if the teams’ general managers and scouts have been doing their jobs efficiently. Ryan Poles must agree since he told reporters that their draft board is already “pinned down.” Poles also admits that there is plenty more information to gather.

This is actually good news that Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears have their draft board in order already. I am of the belief that general managers, coaches and scouts should not put too much weight into the NFL Combine. The fact that Poles and the Bears have their draft board mostly in place now is important. I am not a professional scout, but in my opinion, scouting a player’s film is more important than what a guy can do in shorts.
Film studies should tell a team what to expect, while the NFL Combine should only be used to help confirm or deny their original analysis. For example, if a player does not have the physical attributes that a team was expecting then that could be a reason to potentially move the player slightly down the draft board.

The Chicago Bears should not pursue this veteran tight end
With Kyle Rudolph announcing he's hitting free agency, the Chicago Bears would be smart to keep their noses out of the bidding war.
Another example that could cause a slight change on a draft board would be if a player’s medicals came back and showed concerns. Finally, it could be possible that a prospect didn’t run as fast as expected or wasn’t as strong as expected. This too could be a difference-maker from the original draft board. However, for the most part, what you see on tape is what you are going to get at the next level. No reason to start overthinking things.
