3. Ereck Flowers

As a tackle prospect, Ereck Flowers had a career that was laughed off as a bust. However, since he moved inside to guard, he has revitalized his career. He got his career back on track with the Miami Dolphins, and then signed a big extension with Washington.

Flowers started 16 games for Washington in his first year of the extension. They could certainly keep him, but they have other big decisions to make on the offensive line, and they have to start clearing cap space.

Releasing Flowers can save Washington nearly $10M, which is a nice chunk. Flowers may have a market but would be unlikely to see nearly that much if he were released. This is what makes him a possibility.

The one question is that he played left guard, while the team likely needs a right guard more. They have Cody Whitehair at left guard, but at the same time, could move on from Whitehair. They could use that money to pay Flowers, or even add James Daniels and Flowers by spending a bit more.

Ryan Poles wants tough run blocking studs, and most of Flowers’s issues come in pass protection. As a physical presence, he has done well, and that is why he turned his career around on the inside.
