It is time for the Chicago Bears to give Jesper Horsted more playing time

One name that jumps out at me, and I don’t see my mind changing on the matter unless Ryan Poles decides to spend a little too much money in free agency at the tight end position, is Jesper Horsted.

Right now, Cole Kmet is the clear favorite to remain the starting tight end in 2022. I recently did a mock draft that has Ryan Poles drafting Jeremy Ruckert in the fifth round. Ruckert is a former teammate of Justin Fields at Ohio State. Although he didn’t put up crazy receiving stats, Ruckert was a big-time red zone threat for Fields who threw nine touchdowns over two seasons to the tight end.

Should a move like this happen, I still want to see Jesper Horsted on the field more this season. Horsted has shown flashes when he is on the field. He only saw three targets last year, but he caught two of them and they were both for touchdowns. In 2020, he caught eight of his 10 targets for 87 yards and a touchdown. He even had a three-touchdown game in the preseason in 2021 vs the Tennesse Titans. Horsted has shown me enough to see him on the field more often in 2022.
