It is now time to see if Dazz Newsome is worthy of a roster spot beyond 2022

A player who saw less than 10% of the offensive snaps last season was Dazz Newsome. In a similar fashion to Thomas Graham, Newsome took quite some time before seeing the field. This was a little less egregious to me than the Thomas Graham situation, but as the year went on and other wide receivers struggled, there was no reason to not give this kid some actual playing time.

Rodney Adams was another name I thought deserved some playing time last year, but only saw action in one game. He saw a target and unfortunately for him, he dropped it. Newsome on the other hand saw five targets and caught two of them for 23 yards. He did not have any drops and what I really like is that Newsome gained 15 of those 23 yards after the catch.

Newsome also saw time as a punt returner last year. He dropped back for six punts and returned them for a total of 75 yards. His longest return was 28 yards. With Darnell Mooney, Nsimba Webster and Isaiah Coulter the only other receivers currently under contract, the Chicago Bears wide receiver group will look very different in 2022. It’s possible that newcomers phase Dazz Newsome back to the practice squad, but with limited draft capital and minimal salary cap room, Newsome should have opportunities as the fourth or fifth receiver this year.
