4. Could T.J. Carrie be Chicago Bears slot corner?

T.J. Carrie is in a similar spot to Xavier Rhodes when he is looking at the free-agent landscape. The two are both veterans and are both 31 years old. They also both spent the past two seasons with most of the Chicago Bears coaches in Indianapolis.

Carrie played for the Raiders to start his NFL career and then signed with the Browns after his rookie contract. Carrie is different than Rhodes in that Carrie is a slot corner. He can move outside and has, but some of his best play comes in the slot. This is arguably a bigger need for the team.

Another strong case to see Carrie sign in Chicago is his special teams’ value. Carrie turned into a starter, but he is a seventh-round pick who first made his money because of his special teams’ value.

If they see him as a player who can step into the slot and add special teams value, it could go a long way. It obviously helps that Matt Eberflus, Alan Williams, and James Rowe were all working hands-on with Carrie the past two years. Once again, it should speak volumes of what they think of Carrie if he does not come to Chicago.
