A Chicago Bears mock draft should the team sign a guy like Amari Cooper
The Chicago Bears finally go defense and draft corner, Josh Jobe – Alabama
In my opinion, wide receiver, offensive line and cornerback are the biggest needs for this team this offseason. Finding a legit defensive tackle to play the 3-technique and a linebacker to play inside in Matt Eberflus and Alan Williams’ new system are also important. Should a player stand out at one of those positions at this point in the draft, then I could see Ryan Poles going that route instead. However seeing Josh Jobe on the board here jumped out at me.
Jobe is a former four-star recruit and has seen plenty of playing time for one of the best football colleges. Alabama constantly churns out NFL talent and although Jobe might not be an immediate starter, he’s a guy I’d take here in the fifth round to compete with the likes of Kindle Vildor, Thomas Graham, Duke Shelley and any potential free agents the team might sign.
The difference between Jobe and the current corners on the Bears defense is Jobe’s length. He stands 6’1″ and weighs in between 185 and 190 pounds. Jobe is a big, physical cornerback who excels at jamming receivers at the line. I think he would fit well in the HITS mentality because he is not the type of player to just loaf around. He only has three interceptions over four years, but he is a sure tackler and hard hitter. He can be used in the pass rush game too.
Personally, watching him go up against some of the best competition over the last few years, I don’t see how he falls this far. I had a third-round grade on Jobe and thought the furthest he could fall was the fourth round. If he does fall to the fifth as he did in this simulator, Matt Eberflus has to push Ryan Poles to phone it in.
