With their second pick in the third round, the Bears get tremendous value with a guy who is definitely on the rise. Cincinnati wide receiver Alec Pierce hasn’t been looked at as one of the top receivers in the draft but is definitely a Tier 2 type of guy.

However, his Combine performance was one to put him on higher notice. Pierce stands 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 211 pounds. He’s built differently. This kid ran an unofficial 4.33 on his 40-yard dash, which was later trimmed to 4.41 as his official time.

For a guy his size, that is excellent speed. As for his other drills? Pierce notched a vertical jump of 40.5 inches and a broad jump of 129 inches. You do the math — this is a steal in the third round.

Pierce would function best as a dangerous slot receiver because of his size and ability to make moves after the catch. However, he’s also fine to line up outside. Pierce is a smart football player who has some of those same tendencies as Cooper Kupp. He is so intelligent when finding spots in coverage to stop and turn to the quarterback, making it easy on his passer.

Getting open is not a problem for Pierce. Making the difficult catches is not a problem, either. This might be the steal of the draft by the Bears, who are getting a guy that averaged 17.5 yards per catch over his entire career at Cincinnati.
