The Bears may not have had a pick in the first two rounds, but making those trades is proving highly valuable now for Poles. With their third pick in the third round, the Bears find a starting guard out of Georgia, National Champion Jamaree Salyer.

Salyer stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 320 pounds, offering great length as well. He is a mammoth of a man with a very wide base. Salyer is a big, powerful man who is tough to move. His length gives him the ability to handle stunts well, too.

The Bears are finding a smart, versatile player here in Salyer, too, as he’s played all five positions up front. He’s best suited at guard, though, because of his dense frame. He has a powerful upper body and packs a hefty first punch. Salyer can knock defensive tackles back off the line with one punch.

To improve, Salyer will need to work on getting to a lower pad level overall. His tall, lengthy frame makes it tougher to do so at times. But, if he can work on getting lower and working from his anchor, up through his upper body, he’ll have a long career. But, he’s got to put it all together, starting with
