The Chicago Bears met with Christian Watson, WR – North Dakota State

The other wide receiver who met with the Chicago Bears was Christian Watson out of North Dakota State University. Watson is a raw prospect who has great upside. His body type is very different from Jahan Watson’s at 6’5″ and 210 pounds. Don’t let his length fool you though, Watson finished with an official 40-time of 4.36. He clearly has some solid top-end speed.

Watson had some drop issues in 2020, but he improved upon those and only had two drops in 2021. His top-end speed does not always help him separate on shorter routes, but he does a great job positioning his body to create separation and box out defenders.

The one thing that stands out with Watson that you don’t see with many of the other wide receiver prospects is his aggressiveness and toughness when it’s needed. He is not afraid of contact and will even initiate it at times if it means gaining extra yards. He will also go out of his way to make a block — something we struggled to see with Allen Robinson. The Bears must like what they have seen since they met with him at the Senior Bowl too.

For me, if Watson is there at 39, he has to be considered. I’m taking Jahan Dotson over Watson personally. I have Watson ranked in my third tier and with a third-round grade. Honestly, he’d be someone I’d take the risk of trading back in the second round and hope he’s still available later — especially if it means the Bears gain any additional draft capital. I’d be happy with either option should the Bears decide to draft one of these players.
