Zion Johnson NFL comparison

NFL.com compared him to Larry Warford, while PFF.com compared Zion Johnson to Laken Tomlinson. Both make sense as long-term starters at guard for their respective teams. The combination of his athletic traits, plus his potential draft slot has also brought up two comparisons.

The best combination of on-field and athletic testing NFL comparison for Zion Johnson is Ben Grubbs and Chris Snee. He is right in line with these names. What is interesting to note is that in the case of Warford, Tomlinson, Grubbs, and Snee you are seeing guards who have been able to put together careers of about nine years.

In those careers, there are about three Pro Bowls, one All-Pro, and a bunch of 16 game seasons where he did not shine but was never seen as an issue. That is exactly what you should expect from Zion Johnson in the NFL.

In the case of Tomlinson, and Grubbs they were first-round picks. Laken Tomlinson went 28th overall, Ben Grubbs went 29th overall, and Chris Snee went 34th overall. This should be the range that Zion Johnson is expected to go. In all three cases, you can say the pick was sound and worth the investment.
