A 2022 Chicago Bears mock draft to shock the world

With their first pick in the second round, the Bears continue building around Fields by selecting Northern Iowa tackle Trevor Penning.

A lot of people assume that the Bears will go with Teven Jenkins and Larry Borom as their starting tackles, but Borom may not quite be ready to take on that role just yet. He is a very valuable backup, but adding a guy like Penning on the opposite side of Jenkins would give Fields’ line some strong anchors.

Penning is a 6-foot-7 mammoth of a man, weighing 325 pounds and offering very good speed for the position. He ran his 40-yard dash in 4.89 seconds at the combine, which was one of the more impressive numbers by an offensive lineman.

What Bears fans will love most about Penning is that he prides himself on a similar demeanor that we heard from Jenkins after last year’s draft. He shares the same mentality, which is to finish his opposing man with nastiness. He wants to pile-drive his opponent every chance he gets and has an edge about him.

Not only does Penning have the size and speed, but he packs a punch. The strength is there. This is a guy who could, along with Jenkins, become a mainstay up front for a very long time.
