This is the point in the draft where the Bears go after, hopefully, the best player available while also addressing needs. By now, one would have presumed that the Bears have signed a free agent cornerback to come in and start opposite Jaylon Johnson. Maybe a guy like Charvarius Ward or Darious Williams makes sense for Poles.

But, they will need to add depth, still. With Thomas Graham likely the third guy in order, the Bears will need more. In the fifth round, they go with Tennessee corner Alontae Taylor.

If Eberflus wants speed, he’s got it with Taylor. This kid ran his 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds and caught the eyes of everyone in the building. Taylor stands 6-feet tall, weighing 199 pounds, and offers the Bears excellent length. His long arms help him to navigate through pass breakups and gain an edge when it comes to press.

At first, Taylor might be one of the Bears’ best special team guys. Whether they decide to use him on punt coverage or back as a return man, he can do it. In the future, Taylor offers upside as a possible starter.

Last year, Taylor posted career highs in tackles (60), pass breakups (6) and interceptions (2) with the Vols.
