Ranking the remaining Chicago Bears free agent WR targets
The Chicago Bears should be all-in on Christian Kirk this offseason
The top wideout who is scheduled to hit free agency later today in my opinion is Christian Kirk. First of all, Kirk is the healthiest of the wide receivers to hit free agency. However, it goes way beyond that for me. He has the most reliable hands out of the pending free agents and he has the breakaway speed needed for Justin Fields to continue his deep-ball threats.
Some might think that Kirk and Mooney would conflict with one another, but in reality, that is not the case. Kirk in my opinion would serve best as a true slot receiver. We saw how well he played last season and that was in part due to him playing out of the slot 78% of the time he was on the field. The other thing that helped Kirk last year was the Cardinals losing DeAndre Hopkins.
Hopkins only played 10 games last year, while Kirk played in all 17. Kirk saw his second-most targets last year with 103. He caught 77 of them for 12.8 yards per reception and a 74.8% completion percentage. He also saw the deepest target per attempt last year too with 9.5. For his career, he has averaged over 65% completion percentage. The downfall of Kirk at this point is his lack of touchdowns. He only had five last year, six in 2020 and three in his first two years.
Signing Kirk won’t give the Chicago Bears a true WR1, but they will need to try and find that in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Also, I don’t believe that he will see $15 million per year as has been recently reported.
