The Chicago Bears could still sign wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster

I recently wrote about the free agents wide receivers who were still available in free agency and ranked them. Many of the top options have already signed elsewhere. Christian Kirk was my top option and he was overpaid by the Jacksonville Jaguars. DJ Chark was fourth in my rankings and he signed with the Detroit Lions. Even a few of the guys in my next tier of receivers signed elsewhere (Cedric Wilson and Russell Gage).

Luckily, JuJu Smith-Schuster is still on the market. He was second in my rankings and I would love to see the Chicago Bears land him at a decent price in free agency. When I say decent, I mean no more than $12 million in AAV. His injury to his shoulder and inability to play even half the season last year could help keep his price down. His upside is too great to ignore though and we have seen him look like a top wide receiver before — even if four years ago.

It was just two years ago though that he added nine touchdowns to the Steelers’ stats, he just does not get the downfield looks in the Steelers’ offense anymore and that has something to do with Ben Roethlisberger’s inability to consistently push the ball downfield — partly why he has retired. Smith-Schuster’s yards after catch (YAC) is down slightly, but not enough to warrant a big concern. Give him 100+ targets in this offense and he will bounce back. He also fits what Ryan Poles seems to be looking for in a free agent — hungry and aggressive.
