Should the Chicago Bears draft Jalen Tolbert?

It is not hard to say that the Chicago Bears need any wide receiver, so of course the answer is yes. Still, there are questions as to how Jalen Tolbert would fit and whether he would be the best option for the team.

While the speed and deep-ball ability are perfect to connect with Justin Fields, there is a question of whether Tolbert is too redundant with Darnell Mooney. Mooney is slowly becoming more well-rounded, but his game is mostly down the sidelines and catching deep balls.

Neither Mooney nor Tolbert would be going over the middle often, and the team would still be lacking a big body who can go up and win in contested catch situations.

The question lies in what they see in Darnell Mooney upside-wise. If they think that he can take the step into being an X wide receiver who can win off of the line of scrimmage and make tough contested catches then they certainly could add Jalen Tolbert. Mooney does not have the standard body type but neither did Stefon Diggs or Antonio Brown and they were fine as X wideouts.

If they view Darnell Mooney as a great number two, then they are not going to find their number one in Jalen Tolbert. They may want to swing higher. Tolbert can play the slot at times, and that could make him a fit, but overall there would be too many questions.

The Chicago Bears need wideout, and they need deep speed to help Justin Fields. That makes him a fit, but the questions surrounding how they build the room as a hole linger.
