A 2022 Chicago Bears mock draft with trades to assist free agency
By Ryan Heckman
What a week it has been for the NFL. Over the first full week of free agency, we’ve seen big move after big move, and here the Chicago Bears are, playing it cool.
First-year general manager Ryan Poles should be applauded for being able to stick to his plan thus far. Quite frankly, it could be easy to come in as the new guy in charge and want to make some splashy signings.
The only real splash Poles has made was actually trading away a big name, sending Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers for a pair of draft picks.
Still, Poles hasn’t remained completely quiet. He’s made a handful of calculated signings thus far, with an eye on the future and, most importantly, the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears have done what we’ve expected in free agency but could make even bigger moves in the 2022 NFL Draft
The Bears have added a few names at different positions in free agency, thus far. Poles brought in former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi as his first major signing, but ultimately he failed his physical and the deal fell through.
The signings that have stuck, though, could be important ones.
Still, the Bears remain a team amidst a massive rebuild and might not be done parting with veterans either. That remains to be seen.
After the first wave of free agency has come and gone, there are still many players available to sign — and many who could make an immediate impact.
But again, Poles is focused on the future of this organization, and that starts in the draft. This 2022 mock draft would prove to help supplement the moves made so far, but give the Bears a base on which to build upon going forward.
