A 2022 Chicago Bears mock draft with trades to assist free agency
By Ryan Heckman
The Bears aren’t done there, however. Again in the second round, the Bears trade back. This time, it’s with the New York Giants.
Chicago sends the Giants their no. 48 overall selection in exchange for picks no. 67 and no. 81, giving the Bears four picks inside the top-100. With pick no. 67, the Bears select Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross.
Ross was a victim of a Clemson team that wasn’t the product it’s normally known for last season. But, he is quite the specimen. At 6-foot-3 and weighing 205 pounds, he’s a bit bigger than the aforementioned Pickens.
In the Bears’ scheme, Ross would be a force in the slot. Of course, the team just signed Byron Pringle who will likely play that role. However, the possibility to add a guy like Ross at this pick is too good to pass up. And, you can never have enough playmakers for a young quarterback like Fields.
Ross did miss the entire 2020 season due to a scary spinal procedure, so maybe the Bears ease him into the offense after he proved he could play a full season last year. This is, after all, about the future of this team. The Bears can use 2022 as a building year, and Ross may serve best not to be rushed.
