A week into free agency the Chicago Bears have made a few moves, but not quite the splashes that some fans wanted to see. Still, the team has plenty of time and now a second wave of free agents to look over. With that in mind, it is a good point to look at where the roster currently stands, and what the team may be looking to add in the coming weeks.

Chicago Bears QBs: (3)

Justin Fields, Nick Foles, Ryan Willis.

There is talk that the team may trade Nick Foles, but that seems unlikely. At the moment it is easy to assume these three will stick until training camp.

Chicago Bears Running Back (4):

David Montgomery, Khalil Herbert, Darrynton Evans, Khari Blassingame

This is another position that will remain untouched. Herbert the backup, Evans is a change of pace, while Blassingame is a full back. All of the backs have a role and a locked-in roster spot.

Chicago Bears WRs (6)

Equanimous St. Brown, Byron Pringle, Darnell Mooney, Dazz Newsome, Isaiah Coulter, Nsimba Webster

The team has six wideouts, but realistically has three, and maybe four. Newsome and Webster could be the last guy as return options, while ESB has been a backup for years. The team will certainly draft a wideout, but another depth signing could be coming as well.

Chicago Bears TEs (2)

Cole Kmet, Jesper Horsted

The two tight ends that they have could be the one and two of this group and that would be fine. However, they need one or two more tight ends to fill out this room as well. Due to the lack of a real need, they will be slow and meticulous here, but they will add someone at some point.

Chicago Bears OL: (8)

Teven Jenkins, Larry Borom, Cody Whitehair, Lucas Patrick, Sam Mustipher, Tyron Wheatley, Willie Wright, Lachavious Simmons.

The last three names are probably not going to make the roster, so the group is still about only as deep as the starters. Beyond that, Borom is a day three pick that this regime did not select and they just went out and signed someone to replace him.

With that in mind, the Bears essentially have three starters, two depth pieces, and three potential cut candidates. They need three or four more offensive linemen who will compete to play.

Chicago Bears defensive line (12)

Al-Quadin Muhammad, Trevis Gipson, Robert Quinn, Jeremiah Attaochu, Charles Snowden, Sam Kamara

Angelo Blackson, Justin Jones, Mario Edwards, Khyiris Tonga, LaCale London, Auzoyah Alufohai

With Justin Jones replacing Larry Ogunjobi and Al-Quadin Muhammad filling in for the loss of Khalil Mack this group is about as set as you would want. Of any position, the most unlikely to see a new addition would be this group. You can assume the top four on each line will be the eight-man rotation that works on gameday.

Chicago Bears LBs (5)

Roquan Smith, Nicholas Morrow, Caleb Johnson, Joe Thomas, Noah Dawkins

You could see Smith and Morrow start as well as Johnson and Thomas as depth. Still, Dawkins is not long for the roster, and the team will need two more linebackers, one who could rotationally get on the field, and one depth name that will fill out the room and compete with Dawkins.

Chicago Bears CBs (7)

Jaylon Johnson, Duke Shelley, Kindle Vildor, Thomas Graham, Michael Joseph, BoPete Keyes, Lamar Jackson

The top four of this group could be in play to make the roster, but the bottom three have shown nothing to say that they will stick around. With that in mind, likely one corner will be added, but that cornerback will certainly have starter upside.

Next. Will Bears continue this free agency trend. dark

Chicago Bears Safety (2)

Eddie Jackson, DeAndre Houston-Carson

Most safety rooms wind up being four players, so the Chicago Bears will be adding two safeties at some point. The question becomes whether they sign a clear starter over DHC, or if they trust him to fill in next to Eddie Jackson.
