Let me preface this entire article by saying, this is purely speculation. Speculation that incorporates educated guesses by looking at specific players, contracts, and their fit in the new system that the Chicago Bears are looking to run in 2022. Also, when we look at this list, we also have to understand that it is possible that not every free agent would want to come to Chicago. It also should be known that although five free agents are listed, by no means am I trying to say that the Chicago Bears should have signed all of them.

Also, before we get into the five players I think that the Bears might regret not signing, there are a few names that could be on this list, but I just don’t believe it is possible to include them for various reasons.

The Chicago Bears may regret not being more active on these five free agents

For example, Brian Allen is a name I’d have loved to include on this list. For one, he comes from a scheme that is likely to be very similar to what Luke Getsy is going to install here in Chicago. The problem is, it seems he had no plan on leaving Los Angeles.

Allen received a three-year, $18 million dollar contract and honestly, I’d have been okay had the Bears looked to give Allen more money if it meant he was coming to Chicago. That said, Lucas Patrick is a solid consolation prize and at his price could be a steal compared to Allen. Just another reason why Allen doesn’t make this list.

Defensively, it would have been awesome to see the likes of J.C. Jackson across from Jaylon Johnson, but this is not the answer nor where Ryan Poles should be spending cap dollars. Charvarious Ward is another corner who cost less than Jackson, but still received more than I’d be willing to give if I were Ryan Poles. In fact, because I wanted the Bears to make a major shift to offense, not a single defensive player makes this list of five.
