4. Can Chicago Bears steal Ike Boettger

Some Chicago Bears fans have taken to the idea of Ryan Bates being a must-sign player, and while the Chicago Bears did bring him in, it could set up interest down the road for Ike Boettger.

If Bears fans thought the four starts for Bates were impressive, Boettger was starting in Buffalo weeks before Bates and has roughly 1,000 more career snaps than Bates. Beyond that, Boettger looked strong in pass protection during his time.

Ike Boettger has taken more snaps at left guard than right, but he has stepped in at both right guard and center when called upon. Let’s say that Chicago does offer Bates a deal and then Bates gets matched by the Buffalo Bills. It takes cap space away from Buffalo and keeps Boettger on the block while the demand for him just went down elsewhere.

Losing out on overpaying Ryan Bates could wind up setting the Chicago bears with a reasonable deal for Ike Bottger. That would be a best-case potential outcome to get the guard depth without having to pay a big price.
