Reason No. 3 why Darnell Mooney can be the Chicago Bears WR1: Justin Fields connection
Something NFL fans have learned in the last few seasons, specifically, is that a deep connection between the quarterback and wide receiver is a really, really important connection.
While some quarterbacks and receivers can succeed without being best friends off the field, those that are close, oftentimes have the ability to feed off each other’s strengths. Along with that, they have a better chance of knowing what one another does best, as well as knowing what they don’t do well.
Thinking back to last season alone, two of the top QB-WR duos in the league were Matthew Stafford-Cooper Kupp, Aaron Rodgers, and Joe Burrow-Ja’marr Chase. Another duo that flew somewhat under the radar was Tua Tagovailoa-Jaylen Waddle.
Something all four of those combos have in mind is that there was a clear connection between the quarterback and wide receiver on the field that was rooted by having a close, working relationship.
Rodgers and Adams, while splitting this offseason, were among the best QB-WR connection for quite some years, and that didn’t come with just practicing with each other each day.
The Tagovailoa-Waddle and Burrow-Chase connections make sense, given their playing time in college together, but the more intriguing case is between Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp.
It was reported that Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp ate breakfast with each other each morning, and that was proceeding a day when they practiced together for hours. That type of behavior can either build best friends or people that can’t stand each other anymore and for the reigning Super Bowl champs, it seems like they’re not too sick of each other yet.
During the season, once Fields was given the keys to the Bears’ offense, there was clearly something brewing between Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney. Game-after-game, Fields would hit Mooney, and each time, it shed light onto what’s to come for the duo in the future.

This offseason, social media has been flooded with videos of Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney training at a handful of different facilities together. So, to say the connection between Fields and Mooney isn’t there would be flat-out wrong. NFL fans have seen what a good connection can lead to, so if Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney keep at it, maybe a Super Bowl victory can be something they achieve together.
That connection, as well as all else that Darnell Mooney brings to the table, is the final reason that Mooney has what it takes to take over the No. 1 wide receiver position with the Chicago Bears.
