With back-to-back picks in the second round, the Chicago Bears take a WR

There is no secret that the Chicago Bears need help at the wide receiver position. Right now, the top two targets include Darnell Mooney and free agent receiver, Byron Pringle. With options still available in free agency, none of them have the potential to become a top receiver in the game. This is why Ryan Poles takes George Pickens with his first pick as the Bears general manager.

Round 2, Pick 47 – George Pickens, WR – Georgia

There definitely is some risk involved with George Pickens. He suffered an ACL injury during spring practice in 2021. He was back on the field less than nine months later versus Georgia Tech. The problem to me is that Pickens’ film in 2020 is superior to his tape in 2021. it is not that he was bad in 2021, he just looks slightly less explosive. The hope is that he regains that explosiveness and turns out to be a steal in this 2022 NFL Draft.

Pickens projects as an X or outside receiver. He has the ability to separate (something I don’t like when watching David Bell) and although he’s not lightning fast, he is very quick and fast on the field. He can highpoint the ball like the best of them. His hands are phenomenal. He is even willing to throw blocks at times. He makes for a great pairing with Darnell Mooney who would be the Z receiver and Byron Pringle who is likely to play in the slot.

Ryan Poles does not stop there though. This Bears wide receiver group is about to go from meh to wow really quick.
