Late in the third round, the Bears stick to the offensive side of the ball. Poles bolsters the wide receiving room by selecting Boise State’s Khalil Shakir at No. 90 overall.

Shakir brings a totally different element to the offense than a guy like Burks does. Where Burks is an outside, big-bodied guy, Shakir is a little shorter at 6-feet and plays a totally different style.

The Bears could use Shakir in a variety of ways, but mostly in the slot and in different, quick shovel or sweep scenarios. Shakir has experience as a return man and has also taken a few rushes as well, so his versatility could be fun for Luke Getsy to work with.

Shakir is used to getting the ball quickly, for the most part. He’s great after the catch and works upfield in a hurry. On slants, quick outs, and screens, Shakir is set up to do a lot of damage.

Last year at Boise State, Shakir caught 77 passes for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s been an integral part of the Bronco offense for three seasons now and is used to a good amount of volume. Between Burks, Mooney, Shakir and Byron Pringle, the Bears’ receiving core is in great shape.
