Chicago Bears end up with seven top-150 picks in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
Just a couple of picks later, the Bears finally go to the defensive side of the ball. For a few years now, the Bears have been searching for another long-term solution at safety to pair with Eddie Jackson. In Cincinnati’s Bryan Cook, that’s what they are hoping to draft.
Cook stands 6-foot-1 and weighs just under 210 pounds, giving him good size at the position. He’s a strong player, with great length, which allows him to play multiple aspects well.
The Bears’ secondary has lacked someone who reacts well and immediately looks for the football, especially in run situations. Cook is able to react quickly and his athleticism is present when he takes his angles. He’s more than willing to help out in run support and plays with a lot of energy.
Last year, Cook showed that he can be counted on and become one of the defense’s main components. Cook tallied 96 tackles and five for a loss, while also coming up with nine passes defensed.
Cook would fit best in more of a zone scheme, which would work in Chicago. He can cover a lot of space pretty well, even though he doesn’t have blazing straight-line speed. He’s a well-rounded safety who would definitely be trusted to start.
