5 takeaways from Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles at NFL owners meetings
1. Could Chicago Bears still sign Larry Ogunjobi
The Chicago Bears tried to make a splash by signing Larry Ogunjobi early into free agency but the move did not work out after Ogunjobi failed his physical. Ryan Poles spoke for the first time since the issue went through. He noted that it was the same foot that he suffered an injury on in the playoffs.
Poles talked about how much it hurt him to have to tell Ogunjobi that. He also talked about how he hates the 48-hour tampering window because he is not able to get access to medicals until later in the week.
In signing Ogunjobi but not having his medicals the team had their money tied up and could not pursue backup options. Once they found out about Ogunjobi they had to scramble and wound up overpaying Justin Jones. They missed out on defensive tackles but missed out on other positions as well.
Ryan Poles said that he would consider signing Ogunjobi at the right price, even with his failed physical. Of course, the price changed significantly. With that, Ogunjobi has not been as interested. Still, we should not entirely discount that Ogunjobi will be with the Bears at some point in the future.
