Chicago Bears Draft Target: Christian Watson, WR North Dakota State

Hauling in 43 passes for 800 yds and seven touchdowns during his 2021 season, the 6’4″, 208 lbs Christian Watson was a monster for the Bison. Averaging 18.6 YPC, Watson was able to consistently win downfield from the “X” WR position.

At the Reese’s Senior Bowl, his nuanced route running and ability to get vertical from the X receiver position had NFL scouts taking notice. After running circles around DBs at the Senior Bowl, Watson ran an official 4.36 40-yard dash and posted a 38.5-inch vertical jump at the NFL Draft Combine.

This morning, former Bears Director of Scouting Greg Gabriel tweeted that Watson: “may have the most upside of any WR in the draft”. According to Gabriel, several teams around the league seem to have this opinion on Watson. In addition to being a freakish athlete with great size, speed, and route running, Watson is a physical and willing blocker in the run game.

Needing a big and physical “X” WR, who can block outside in the run game and get vertical in the passing game, Watson could be the answer for new Bears OC Luke Getsy at the “X” WR position. If Watson were to fall into the second round in next month’s draft, he could become a very good addition to this Bears WR room.
