The Chicago Bears shock the world by trading into the first round of this 2022 mock draft
Chicago Bears Round 1, Pick No. 26 (via Tennessee): Zion Johnson, IOL
One of the biggest positional needs for the Bears is the offensive line. The importance of protecting quarterback Justin Fields has been a focal point for Ryan Poles. If the Bears hypothetically traded into the first round, it would most likely be for Zion Johnson.
Johnson is exactly what the Bears’ interior needs. He’s a tough, strong player with versatility at both tackle and guard, although his wider frame suggests he’d play guard. His film in the run game is excellent, but Johnson also plays with similar intensity in pass protection. His footwork is sound and he has all the intangibles to be an absolute monster on the offensive line.
If the Chicago Bears were able to move up and draft Zion Johnson, he’d be an instant plug and play guard for the Bears. Landing Johnson would easily make up for the fact that Ryan Poles was unable to secure Ryan Bates thanks to the Buffalo Bills matching the Bears’ offer. Many will be upset with the trade, but drafting a guy like Johnson should change fans’ minds.
