Chicago Bears Round 3, Pick No. 96 (via Denver): Khalil Shakir, WR

I would be a fool not to draft a receiver, considering that the Bears desperately need to overhaul the group. Khalil Shakir is a player that needs to be discussed more — he’s an ideal fit for the Bears at pick 96.

Shakir has a high motor when playing receiver. His 6 foot, 196-pound frame may upset those looking for a taller and bigger player, but he uses his frame perfectly. He’s versatile in both route running and overall speed off the line. Boise State used him in a lot of unique ways, including returning kicks, jet sweeps, and directly as a running back. If Luke Getsky wants a Deebo Samuel type player, Shakir is the guy.

His Combine numbers saw a boost at his Pro Day, which included a 38.5 inch vertical, a 4.43 40-yard dash, and a broad jump of 10’4″. Some things that also stood out to me in his film are his aggressiveness to get the ball and his ability to create windows for his quarterback by using leverage and strength. He’s tenacious and gritty, and I think the Bears need a player like that on offense.
