Chicago Bears free agent target: Xavier Rhodes, CB
This is not the first time that Xavier Rhodes has been mentioned as a free agent option the Chicago Bears should definitely consider. I’m honestly surprised that this acquisition has yet to happen.
Although nearly 32-years-old, Rhodes still has plenty to offer. For one, he’s very familiar with Matt Eberflus and Alan Williams. Rhodes has spent the last two years playing in that defensive system while with the Colts. He had a fairly decent showing over that span too. He missed four games over those two seasons, but finished with three interceptions, an interception returned for a touchdown, and 81 combined (67 solos) tackles. His advanced stats were solid as well. While in Indianapolis, Rhodes never allowed more than 60.7% of his targets to be completed.
If we look at his most recent contracts, Xavier Rhodes signed a one-year contract in 2020 with the Colts worth less than $3 million dollars. This past season, the Colts signed him back on another one-year deal worth $4.7 million. The longer it takes for Rhodes to find a new home, the more likely he will be signed to another short-term deal, but once again worth less than $3 million dollars per year and therefore not counting against the compensatory pick formula.
