As the Chicago Bears get ready for the 2022 NFL draft we will be previewing each position as well. Today, we will review the tight ends. On average 14 tight ends are drafted every year. Who are the top 14 tight ends who are likely to be drafted and what is their NFL comparison? The comparisons come thanks to RAS.

UDFA Targets:  Curtis Hodges, Teagan Quitoriano, Jalen Wydermyer, Chase Allen, Austin Allen, Peyton Hendershot

14. Grant Calcaterra, SMU

NFL Comparison for Grant Calcaterra: Jacob Tamme

Grant Calcaterra was a highly regarded prospect at Oklahoma before concussions cause him to medically retire. He returned and had a strong season, although he will now enter the NFL as a 24-year-old rookie.

Calcaterra compares to Jacob Tamme in that both were pass-catching tight ends coming out of college, and while they both have just enough blocking ability, their true value comes from being able to move into the backfield as an H-back type role, as well as line up in-line and out of the slot.

Overall, Calcaterra could be viewed as a competent U-tight end, and a depth piece.

13. Isaiah Likely, Coastal Carolina

NFL Comparison for Isaiah Likely: Dante Rosario

A lot of services have Isaiah Likely, but when you see the athleticism as well as the arm length below you have to be concerned. He is not up to standard measures for an NFL player.

Isaiah Likely was never a good blocker in college and was often schemed open by being used in motion to get a free release and clean path into yards after the catch.

Isaiah Likely is essentially a slower, less prolific version of Trey Burton for Chicago Bears fans to understand his skill set. Considering he is that slow, you cannot trust the things he did to translate to the NFL.

12. Chig Okonkwo, Maryland

NFL Comparison for Chig Okonkwo: Noah Gray

We wrote up Chig Okonkwo and you can check out his full draft profile here. The Chicago Bears have shown interest already.

11. James Mitchell, Virginia Tech

NFL Comparison for Ed Dickson

James Mitchell would have been ranked higher, but he lost his 2021 season due to an ACL injury. He is reception first tight end who could be used as depth in the red zone as he puts on weight to become a better blocker.
