Chicago Bears Free Agent Acquisition: Nicholas Morrow, LB
An undrafted free agent out of Division III Greenville University, Nicholas Morrow has improved his game drastically since entering the League in 2017. Starting 10+ games in a season for the first time in 2020-2021, Morrow recorded 78 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception for the Raiders defense. Missing all of last season with a foot injury suffered in training camp, Morrow’s foot is now healthy and ready to go. With experience playing the “Will”, “Sam”, and the “Mike” Linebacker in an Eberflus style 4-3 defense, Morrow is a solid scheme fit with position versatility.
Lacking plenty of depth and experience at LB after cutting Danny Trevathan, Morrow was a much-needed piece for the Bears’ defense. Looking to compete for the starting Will or Mike LB spot, Morrow should have plenty of opportunities in training camp. Respected by Raiders teammates for his work ethic and film study, Morrow will be great at helping Roquan Smith adjust to the scheme changes on defense. Signing for just one year and $3 million dollars, he is a low-risk high reward veteran player for Poles.
While undergoing scheme changes, it is crucial to have experienced and High IQ players like Morrow. Likely to play the “Mike” LB in Eberflus’ 4-3 defense, the Bears now have another proven starting caliber LB in Morrow.
