The Baltimore Ravens released Miles Boykin, a former third-round pick at wide receiver. In all, this is not the biggest news, especially after Boykin missed most of 2021 with an injury, and hauled in just one pass. Over his three-season career, he has 33 catches for 470 yards and seven touchdowns. This is not a superstar that teams are lining up for. Still, the Chicago Bears should probably be interested.

Should Chicago Bears sign Miles Boykin?

Miles Boykin checks a couple of boxes that the team is interested in. To start, he is young, just 25 years old. He is also going to come cheap, knowing he will not get many more chances after such a poor going in Baltimore. On top of all of that, he still has upside, mostly tied to his athletic background.

Overall Boykin was not necessarily a great fit for the Ravens. He is a player who works the outside and can catch deep balls down the sideline. Lamar Jackson is not the player who attacks down the field and outside the numbers. Most of his big passes come from posts and breaking routes. Jackson and Fields throw to different areas of the field and Fields would be a better quarterback fit.

Still, one thing that Boykin improved on that could pique the Bears’ interest is his blocking. That is how he got on the field in Baltimore, and you know their run-first ways would force the wideouts to work on the outside.

Boykin is a big body and could come in and get reps just from the effort he shows in the run game. This provides a stable floor on top of the big plays and athletic ceiling.

No one is saying that Miles Boykin would come into Chicago, turn his career around, and become the next D.K. Metcalf. However, when you look at Equanimous St. Brown, Boykin was a better prospect coming out of the same school.

When you say that Dazz Newsome and Isaiah Coulter could be on the roster right now, it is hard not to say go sign Miles Boykin. This is not the shoot for the moon stuff like trading everything for Davante Adams. This is a one-year minimum salary deal for a 25-year-old needing a new place to play. This is a move that makes sense for the Chicago Bears.
