Chicago Bears acquire several late picks in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
In the sixth round is where the Bears will pick next, thanks to another trade. This time, it’s with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who send the Bears three picks in exchange for No. 148 overall. Chicago gets picks 180, 222 and 235 in return.
With their pick at 180, the Bears get maybe one of the draft’s biggest steals in Louisiana safety Percy Butler. For starters, Butler is an absolute special teams stud. He puts on a show with tackle after tackle on coverage team and is one of the best special teams players in the nation.
Where the Bears might have found a steal, though, is if they plug Butler into strong safety. He stands six feet tall, weighing 191 pounds, and is as physical as they come at the position. Butler actually projects best in a zone scheme, which would be ideal with him coming to Chicago.
Since the Bears lost Adrian Amos, they haven’t had a guy who can lay the wood like that. Butler comes in and immediately fills that role, should he get the starting gig.
Overall, Butler is a developmental prospect who still needs some refinement in his angles and overall anticipation. But, he plays the right way and would be a great pick here.
