1. Jake Hummel, LB, Iowa State

Jake Hummel is the most recent name to visit Halas Hall, and really the name in-between Hardy and Esezi Otomewo. Esezi Otomewo got a combine invite, while Hardy is a UDFA for sure who was ranked 80th on a position board.

Dane Brugler has Hummel 29th amongst his linebackers, and a possible 7th round pick, but he did not get a combine invite either. Still, it was the athletic measurements at his Pro Day that likely have the team interested.

Hummel is a two-year starter at linebacker and will play linebacker in the NFL. Below you can see how he compares to Hardy, who likely will have to shift to linebacker once drafted.

You can see that the Chicago Bears have the same idea when it comes to Hardy and Hummel. They want speed. Hummel is a bit smaller, but just a touch more athletic as well. The biggest thing to see is that both are under 6.9 in the 3-cone, showing a unique change of direction.

Both will likely make their hay on special teams, so it makes sense that they want to find tackling linebackers who can run to be their depth pieces.

Whether it be Jake Hummel or Daniel Hardy, do not be surprised if one of these two is stepping into the Joel Iyiegbuniwe role next season. Let’s hope that the draft capital is not the same, though.
