1. Could Julie’n Davenport make Chicago Bears roster?

The Chicago Bears signed an offensive lineman. While his reputation is not great, the reality is that fans cannot complain about the depth of the offensive line.

Julien Davenport was a fourth-round pick, the highest of any of this group. Beyond that, he got onto the field as a rookie but then was the starting left tackle for the 2018 Houston Texans.

To be fair, his season as a starter is what led the team to trade for Laremy Tunsil. Still, the Dolphins acquired him in the Tunsil trade, and he started the first few games with them. He was poor, but this is the Dolphins team that is being investigated for tanking as well.

Davenport spent 2020 with the Dolphins, then signed with the Colts in 2021. For the third time in his NFL career, he was penciled into week one starting snaps at left tackle. For the third time, he lost that job.

To be fair, the team signed him solely to hold down the fort until Eric Fisher was ready to return. Fisher came back early so Davenport could not prove anything, although his play was not great.

Still, a fourth-rounder who has started for three teams is at least something to consider. He spent most of his snaps at left tackle, so you would assume that would be where he is competing. Perhaps this is another sign that Teven Jenkins is sticking back on the right side?

Either way, the team should not have just sat on their hands with the offensive line depth chart so the move makes plenty of sense.
