Chicago Bears Big Board No. 10: Justyn Ross

Projected: Late Day 2/Early Day 3

Target for the Bears at Pick(s): 71/Day 3

Justyn Ross was on an unbelievable career trajectory before injuries took course in 2020, and some more than frustrating QB play/everything Clemson-related in 2021. Ross made a name for himself in the 2018 College Football Playoffs where he and Trevor Lawrence made a championship run.

But the bad luck would get the best of him going forward as he would not get to showcase his talents in 2021 due to an injury and other reasons out of his control. Regardless, Justyn Ross is a very good athlete, not necessarily because of his speed, which is rather average. But his flexibility at his height is rare. His flexibility gives him very good route running capabilities. Not only is Ross a proficient deep to intermediate route runner, Ross is a very solid short-route runner.

It is truly a mystery where Ross will be selected as I could see him as high as the early second, to even a mid to late Day 3 pick. Ross’s medicals are pretty unclear too, as he did not partake in the combine.

I think Ross at the minimum will be a very good “big slot” type of receiver as he is very good at contested catches and can bully smaller defensive backs with ease using his size. Ross also has tons of untapped potential that maybe a team is willing to take a chance on, to help him return to his 2018/2019 form.

Ross also has a ceiling of being an X receiver at the next level simply due to his size and route-running skills, but his speed and medicals will be the thing holding him back as of right now.
